Real Men, Real Significance!

New Years Resolution Time: How about trying something NEW this year??

Begin by asking yourself “Who am I?” this Q will help you make 2011 a real NEW year, rather than a self-centered recycling effort.

1.       What’s the purpose of my life? This should be more than the old “been there, done that” and hopefully go beyond collecting t-shirts and trophies. Think of it in terms of your family.  No purpose, no meaning.

2.       Who do I serve? If the word “myself” is top-of-mind, maybe we should get out more. Am I truly serving my family not just financially but emotionally?  No people, no mission.

3.       What is really valued by those I serve? A term for serving only the values of capital gains is “slavery”. Does our family have values?  No values, no victory.

4.       What difference am I making? This is about substance. No results, no relevance.

5.       What’s my plan? Make sure you have a map for the journey. Of course, God laughs at the plans of men. He determines the steps. However, with no direction, no destination. Just be flexible :-)

It’s simple enough to take such an inventory, focusing on who you are rather than what you do – your character rather than your Bucket List. You might gain the whole world and lose your soul. Be the man your wife needs you to be, the dad your children want you to be, the leader others desire to emulate. Make 2011 a Real NEW year. We need more Real Men, living with Real Significance.
